Bust
Plaster
8 x 12 x 10 in.
2015

This piece is me injecting myself into art history's longstanding tradition of bust portraiture. Bust is my version of a self portrait representing me as an artist living in the 21st century. This sculpture is of my own image generated through digital fabrication methods. Starting with a 3D scan of my head I then created the sculpture by pouring plaster into a mold fabricated from CNC cut foam sheets, the final product resembles my appearance but is partially “pixelated” due to the digital modeling process and the sectioning of the mold. Plaster as a material speaks back to the historical stone that was used to create the traditional busts of the past but here it's revitalized by my new technological construction.
